Floor Area: 4,492m2 We recognise that, as a global business, we need to rise to the challenges and opportunities of environmental sustainability by continually improving our environmental performance. We measure and report our performance across our global network of offices. This is underpinned by our UK ISO14001 and ISO 50001 certified environmental and energy management system, and our membership of the UK and Australian Legal Sustainability Alliances, a collective effort by law firms to take action to improve the environmental sustainability of their operations and activities. Allen & Overy’s pro bono and community investment programme uses the skills and time of our people to tackle pressing social issues. We organise our volunteering work around two major themes – access to justice and access to education and employment. We bring together our resources and experience on multi-jurisdictional projects, as well as addressing the need in local communities. As a member of Justice Connect, we regularly assist on matters referred through this service. We have also been assisting the Human Rights Centre with applications to the High Court of Australia for three asylum seekers, to prevent their return to offshore detention. In Western Australia, we are a stakeholder in the WA Law Access advisory committee overseeing the clearing-house, a system designed to help people obtain pro bono legal assistance in areas of law where there is limited or no assistance. Our community initiatives include relationships with Lady Lawley Cottage, a residential respite care service for children with disabilities and The Beacon, the Salvation Army’s homeless accommodation centre. We also support the community through participation in the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) mentoring program along with volunteering activities with the Red Cross, Wayside Chapel, and activities selected by staff.
